LIMEKILN STATE PARK CLOSED DUE TO ROCK SLIDES

Big Sur , CA:  On Saturday, February 10, 2007, due to recent rains and unstable soil, a small rock slide occurred partially blocking the entrance at Limekiln State Park. Campers in the campground were evacuated and the park entrance was closed as work crews are assessing the damage.

A second slide, independent of the previous days slide occurred on Sunday, February 11, 2007 at approximately 9:00 a.m. damaging a propane tank causing a slow leak. The Big Sur Forrest Service and San Luis Obispo Coast District Rangers responded to the scene. They assessed the situation and determined it to be safe.

The park entrance will remain closed until further notice. For more information, please contact John Russo, Supervising State Park Ranger at (805) 927-2038 or Leander Tamoria, Supervising State Park Ranger at (805) 927-4799.
