At Hearst Castle:
A fine example of ‘Peace climber’ is located on the south-east wall of La Casa del Mar. Also there are a pair climbing up the Mexican Fan Palms in front of La Casa del Monte. There are more, including standard and bush forms throughout the castle gardens.
Comments:
One of the best known and loved roses of all time. Like most roses, it likes full sun, good drainage, regular water and fertilizer. Dormant pruning should be done yearly. Remove oldest, unproductive canes and any weak, twiggy growth; cut back lateral branches on remaining canes to within 2-4 buds from main canes. Keep in mind ‘Peace’ rose does not like severe, drastic pruning.
Description:
A hybrid tea climber growing to 15′ tall. This deciduous plant has trifoliate, glossy-green leaves with arching, thorny stems. The flower has large, high-centered opening cupped, rose shape. Subtle perfume scent. Most often creamy-yellow, it tends to vary in color from soil to soil and even from day to day, depending in the weather.
