Daffodils can be spotted
intermingling with the azaleas and rhododendrons
along the east esplanade. Also, in the upper bed
above the tennis courts. A bed planted with 'King
Alfred' bulbs are located on the slope next to the
ramp down to the Roman pool from the tennis courts.
We have no correspindence, pictures or information
on Daffodils in the historic garden period (1919-1951).
A
perennial from bulbs. Leaves are usually straight
and flat. The blossom has a structure that
consists of a perianth (six outer petal-like
segments) held at right angles to the corona
(also called trumpet or cup) in the blossoms
center.
Great for naturalizing
in gardens. They come up year-to year; take
cold and heat; and thrive with little attention.
Bloom late winter into spring. Likes sun or
part shade.
