Sometimes referred to as "Firecracker Fuchsia" at Hearst Castle, but this is name refers to a different kind of fuchsia. The genus "Fuchsia " is named in honor of Leonhart Fuchs (1501-1556), a German botanist. The genus contains more than 100 species, most native to tropical America. The other Fuchsias at Hearst Castle are mostly hybrids.
