Docent Opportunities

Volunteer Programs
Opportunities to work at Hearst Castle include volunteer experiences available in both the Hearst Castle Visitor Center Docent and Living History Docent programs. These volunteer opportunities are part of the Department-wide Volunteers in Parks programs. California State Parks are enriched by the many skills and interests that volunteers bring to the parks in their communities.

Persons interested in becoming docents and volunteers with California State Parks at Morro Bay, Montaña de Oro, and Pismo Beach are invited to attend three training classes being held on three Saturdays in January, 2004.

Visitor Center Docents
The Docents at the Hearst Castle Visitor Center provide invaluable information to park visitors and assist in orienting them to the Monument as well as the surrounding areas. These volunteers work at the Visitor Center information desk and in the museum. For additional information on this program, please call (805) 927-2014.

Living History Docents
The Docent Training Program at Hearst Castle prepares interested volunteers to become part of the Castle's exciting Living History Program. As a docent you have the opportunity to become part of the Castle's history as you help take visitors back to the 1930's heyday. The program consists of informative training sessions where you will learn how to dress and carry yourself in order to best represent actual Castle life. In addition to participating in the popular evening tours as staff and guests of William Randolph Hearst, docents in the Living History program also participate in various community outreach programs. Anyone is welcome to join the Docent Training Program and we are always looking for new faces to fill the halls and rooms of Hearst Castle! For additional information on this program, please call (805) 927-2087.
